Conforming Loan

Mike Starr·Reviewed August 2026

A conforming loan is a mortgage that meets the guidelines set by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, including loan limits set annually by the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). Conforming loans can be sold to these government-sponsored enterprises, which keeps mortgage rates competitive. Loans above the limit are called jumbo loans.
