Good Faith Estimate (GFE)

Mike Starr·Reviewed August 2026

A Good Faith Estimate was a standard form lenders provided listing estimated closing costs. It has been replaced by the Loan Estimate form, which is now required by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau within three business days of a loan application. The Loan Estimate makes it easier to compare offers from multiple lenders.
