Mortgagee
The mortgagee is the lender in a mortgage transaction — the bank, credit union, or mortgage company that provides the loan funds and receives a security interest in the property as collateral. If the borrower (mortgagor) fails to repay the loan, the mortgagee has the legal right to foreclose on the property and recover the outstanding balance.
