Recording Fee
A recording fee is a charge paid to the local government (typically a county clerk or recorder's office) to officially document the change of ownership and new mortgage in the public record. Recording the deed and mortgage ensures the transaction is legally recognized and that the lender's lien is publicly recorded. Recording fees are included in closing costs.
